From the Garden of Catherine B., Grand Ronde
There is a lot of science, and a little bit of luck, growing plants. As gardeners grow in experience, they learn what works and what does not produce results year in and year out. But how can you be sure a particular garden input is giving results? Good luck in weather and lack of pests can result in a robust garden with or without a particular input. Nature also always has a way to wreak havoc on a garden in spite of any human effort.
The scientific method has been used for centuries to produce empirical knowledge. Gardens are a perfect opportunity to apply the scientific method in real life application as gardeners observe the effect of their actions. We at Wild Wisdom Wool encourage using the scientific method. When our customers first introduce wool pellets into their garden, we encourage them to have a control group planted without wool pellets. This allows you to see, in real time, the difference in plant growth. Otherwise, you could never be sure the wool pellets helped and maybe it was just good luck or a good growing year. Catherine B. of Grand Ronde, Oregon did just that and she was kind enough to share these pictures of her garden with us!
The photo below features two different pots with the same plant planted at the same time in 2025 and receive roughly the same amount of water. The pot on the left features more robust growth, is greener, and is fuller and healthier in general. The pot on the right is more yellow and less full. Can you guess the one that was planted with wool pellets? If you guessed the pot on the left you were correct. Catherine’s experiment turned her into a firm believer in the benefits of wool pellets.
